A: Filament bacteria can be difficult to indentify. We offer a service
in our technical support section whereby we can identify and provide
technical expertise, training, and recommendations for wastewater
plants that have filaments. We consider our services
to be the best in the country. If you are a small system and cannot
afford our services give us a call and we will guide you as best
as possible.
- Filaments with sulfur deposits – these common filaments use sulfur as their
energy source and are usually, but not always, present in septic
conditions. Staining reveals sulfur deposits in the cell stucture.
- Beggiatoa – caused by organic overloading, low D.O.
- Thiothrix I & II
- Type 021N – common with nitrogen deficiency
- Type 0914 – low F:M and septic wastes
- Gram Negative bulking filaments
- Type 0041 and Type 0675 – low F:M and nutrient deficient conditions.
[Gram variable]
- Type 1851 – Low F:M and grows in bundles. Gram variable.
- Type 0041
- Type 0675
- Type 1701
- Sphaerotilus natans
- Haliscomenobacter Hydrosis
The above filaments are all gram negative, unless otherwise noted, and are responsible for
bulking. Typical contributors include low D.O., nutrient deficiency, and low F:M. If you experience
problems from any of these filaments call us at 1-888-757-9577 and we will work with you to resolve
the conditions.
NOTE: We often use our VitaStim Low F:M formulation which
is a custom formulation not currently on our website. Contact us to discuss a special order.
