 Jim operates a 1.2 MGD activated sludge plant. It was the middle of March, the water temperature was 49°, and a local industry gave them a slug of ph 14 water — killing their nitrifying bacteria. Their effluent ammonia jumped up to 14 ppm and was in violation of state laws. They tried modifying plant operations to bring the ammonia down with no results. When they ordered the potent VitaStim Nitrifiers and started adding it into their aeration basins, within three days nitrification was reestablished and ammonia was back down to less than 3 ppm. His staff, as well as local regulatory agencies, were very impressed.
